Harewood was there for Hull City’s taking
06:30 PM 02 September, 2009
Hull City Football Club could have signed Marlon Harewood on deadline day, by all accounts.

Phil Brown has been chasing strikers all summer, and when it looked as though he had landed Harwood from Aston Villa on an initial loan deal, he suddenly became cold on the idea.

"Having taken the call from Phil I really thought the deal was going to happen, but that's football and this is what can happen on deadline day," the player’s agent, Phil Sproson, told the Hull Daily Mail.

"I travelled to Villa having spoken to Phil and they were happy for the deal to go ahead and it was all sorted at their end. I tried calling Phil back several times, but we heard nothing more.

"It is strange as Hull seemed interested when we spoke early in the afternoon, but Marlon will move on from this and will bounce back. If Hull had wanted this deal Marlon would be there now.”

It is being suggested that the failure of the Tigers to offload Daniel Cousin to Premier League rivals Burnley was behind their reasons for pulling the plug on the 30-year-old Villa player.
