Should Arsenal go all-out for Carling Cup glory?
Considering they haven’t won a trophy since 2005, shouldn’t Arsene Wenger be thinking about fielding his strongest possible Arsenal team in the Carling Cup this season?
A 2005 FA Cup final win over Manchester United is all the Gunners fans have had to feast on during the past four years, as they continue to fall short on the final furlong.
With this in mind, Wenger would be forgiven for treating this season’s Carling Cup as something of an urgent matter, but he will again use the competition to play his youngsters.
“We have given out a few players on loan but we have a big squad I believe we will have a competitive squad in the Carling Cup,” he told Arsenal.com.
“(Nicklas) Bendtner, (Alex) Song, Denilson, (Cesc) Fabregas and even (Gael) Clichy - they all started in the Carling Cup. That shows you how important it is to go through this stage.”
