Williams: Blackburn just as ambitious as Manchester City
03:00 PM 09 September, 2009
John Williams insists there is no more ambitious a club than Blackburn Rovers.

The Ewood Park chairman has come in for criticism from supporters this summer, after they saw the club receive around £26million in player sales yet Sam Allardyce handed only half this amount.

However, Williams has defended this decision by pointing towards an increased wage bill, the sacking of Paul Ince and appointment of Allardyce, and drop in televised matches as the reason.

And the Rovers chairman also insists he and his club remain as ambitious as ever, even if they do not have the money to match the likes of mega-rich Manchester City.

"I do get depressed at times when I see the spending power of the clubs with big fan bases and/or wealthy owners putting in money," he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

"But they're not better than us, they don't work any harder, they just have more money. And they certainly don't have a greater ambition than us. We should in fact be proud to be supporting a big club in a small town. We deserve to be in this league, it's no fluke."
