Sunderland Football Club have ended their interest in Lucas Neill.

The Australian is available on a free transfer following the end of his deal at West Ham United, but his wage demands have scuppered a potential move to the Stadium of Light.

"We did speak to the player about the possibility of coming to Sunderland," manager Steve Bruce, who has spent heavily this summer, told the Sunderland Echo.

"But as things stand, nothing's going to come of that and nothing will unless circumstances change."
