Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva is sick of being compared with Xabi Alonso.

Spanish playmaker Alonso left Anfield for Real Madrid in a £30million deal this summer, and many viewed this as the perfect opportunity for Lucas.

The Brazilian still has to win round a large number of Reds fans who remain unconvinced about his ability, but he has asked them not to compare him with Alonso.

"I knew when Xabi left that people would compare (us) but anyone who knows football knows I am not the same player as Xabi," Lucas said.

"I try to play more forward and Xabi is a good passer. Of course, we miss him (Alonso) but now he is at Real Madrid and we hope he will do well there.

“We have to now think about our squad."
