Should Arsenal make the Carling Cup a priority?
03:00 PM 22 September, 2009
Arsene Wenger has vowed to stick with his youngsters for this season’s Carling Cup campaign, but should Arsenal be taking the competition more seriously?

Gunners fans are eager for some silverware having not won a trophy since the 2005 FA Cup, but Wenger will field his youngsters and reserves for the visit of West Bromwich Albion.

"You will see Wojciech Szczesny, [Aaron] Ramsey, [Kieran] Gibbs, [Jack] Wilshere and certainly [Carlos] Vela," said the French coach. "[Armand] Traore will play.

"Some experienced players will guide the team, like [Philippe] Senderos and [Mikael] Silvestre. But overall it will be a very, very young team as usual."

It is unlikely Arsenal will win the league this season (oh, come on!), and it would be a surprise if they come out on top in the UEFA Champions League.

Which leaves just the lottery of the FA Cup, and the Carling Cup...so should Wenger be fielding his strongest line-up in the latter this season?
