Marlon Harewood looks destined to join Newcastle United Football Club.

The Aston Villa striker has fallen down the pecking order in Martin O’Neill’s plans, and a three-month loan deal at St James Park is in the pipeline.

"Newcastle are still looking to do something in terms of Marlon," said O'Neill. "I think they are waiting to hear whether they have permission from their owner to progress the move.

"I think the opportunity for him now coming back from injury, to get involved in a cause, would be very important and only a benefit for all of us.”

Gabriel Agbonlahor, John Carew, Emile Heskey and young Nathan Delfouneso are all ahead of Harewood in O’Neill’s Villa Park plans at the moment.
