Should Mannone now be Arsenal number one?
11:15 AM 27 September, 2009
Vito Mannone was superb for Arsenal as they beat Fulham on Saturday, sparking suggestions he should be the regular number one for the Gunners.

With Manuel Almunia struck down by flu and Lukasz Fabianski out with a knee injury, the third choice goalkeeper made his second successive Premier League start.

A Robin van Persie goal gave all three points to the Emirates Stadium club, but it was the performance of the young Italian which hit the headlines.

"I believe you would give him 10 out of 10 because everything he did was right, and for a goalkeeper, that is the most important," said Arsene Wenger.

"He stopped everything he had to stop and did not make any wrong decision. Overall he has shown he has the potential to be a very good goalkeeper.

"Sometimes keepers look unbeatable, and he looked today that he could make every save. He has played a fantastic game today and until the next game, he is the No.1."

Mannone, 21, has kept a clean sheet in his two appearances in the top-flight, but is he a genuine contender for the number one shirt or is it still too early?
