Edwin van der Sar is sure Ben Foster will prove himself at Manchester United Football Club.

The England international has been deputising whilst the Dutch veteran recovers from injury, and he has come in for some criticism after some less than convincing displays.

Van der Sar, who is expected to return against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, still believes Foster will come good in the end, and has backed his goalkeeper colleague to bounce back.

"I had similar things when I was young,” van der Sar told the Manchester Evening News. “That is what makes you the man and the player you become as a goalkeeper.

"Ben certainly has the strength of character to overcome what he has been through. It will shape the player he will be. He is a very strong guy. I have sympathy for him but I have no worries about him."
