Obafemi Martins could be back in contention for Newcastle United Football Club on Monday.

The Nigerian international has started just two games for the Magpies this season due to a knee injury, but he could make his return against Manchester City at St James Park.

"We have pushed up his [Martins'] training schedule, we were planning to keep him back but because of this we have brought him back into the first-team squad," said manager Joe Kinnear.

"He hasn't had to have any more treatment back on the injury to his knee prior to training so that is a good sign and he is in my mind to be involved in the match against Manchester City."
