Billy Davies has played down Nottingham Forest Football Club’s promotion bid.

A 1-0 win against Newcastle United on Saturday lifts Forest on the verge of the play-off spots at this early stage of the season, but Davies insists his side aren’t ready to launch a promotion bid.

"We're not ready this season, I keep saying that to everybody," he told Sky Sports. "We're still looking at consolidation and steady progress.

"We're very much a club that's a work in progress, we've got a lot of work to do with these young players. But I am very proud of the way my players are maturing and developing. We are learning and improving all the time and games like this can only help us in our development."
