Why didn’t Arsenal make summer move for Cana?

As Lorik Cana continues to impress at Sunderland Football Club, surely Arsene Wenger must be asking himself how he missed the Albanian international.

Cana has made a sensational start to life in the Premier League following his £5million bargain move from Marseille, a deal which Steve Bruce is still pinching himself about.

“Lorik was a cult hero at Marseille and I couldn’t believe they were making him available. It was possibly the easiest transfer we made this summer,” said the Black Cats boss.

As loyal as Wenger is to the players currently in his Arsenal midfield, surely Cana, who is still only 26-years-old, would have been ideal in the Gunners engine room?

If you can find the video of the second half from last game against Liverpool where CANA played centre-back, have a look and let's see if you can say that once again ;). He was rocking out there mate, and he did it hard, really really hard :D. The point is that Cana has a contract that allows him change to one of 4 best clubs (including Arsenal) for a sum of about 11m pounds after one year. I think Wenger wanted get sure Cana can have same performance in Premiership as he's done at Marseille in exchange of paying 6 mil pounds more. Arsenal has its own good young players but sometimes it wants also to buy more experienced players. You can also brows on web, there is an interview from Cana saying that Sunderland is a good 'road' to achieve my goal of playing at one of the best clubs in England. A risky thing is that also Benitez wants the guy for him :S and in football transfer market you never now what is going to happen.

Cana would do the dirty job in Arsenal ....thats what Arsenal needs...and wenger lost to much with no signing him for that kinda money...5 m pounds ....u suck wenger.

Out of 8 matches played, Cana was voted best player for Sunderland 6 times (check Sunderland fc website). He was captain of Marseilles, biggest club in France and is in the top 3 best DM in the league. So Arsene, what do u say?

Dave, you are a complete idiot. The reason Arsenal never win bugger all, is because they are soft as shite, and have no holding midfielder, or a decent centre half, Cana does both better than anyone uve got OR HAD since Vieira.

So, acording to Dave below, big teams dont need players like Cana. How about "one-dimensionals" like Mikkel, Gattuso, Mascherano, Hierro, Rijkaard, and many many many more excellent defensive midfielders? Dave should have just stated this kind of player is not in Wenger's or Barca's style.

Not sure that Arsenal will spend any of the cash as the Board seems to be more interested in their real estate ventures rather than football aquisitions... show me the money Mr. Wenger!

Arsenal doesn't need Cana. The team is doing good this season and Cana would have done nothing exception here.

Ideal for Arsenal? Hardly. He's ideal for a Wigan or Birmingham sort of club who need a stopper in front of defence. A one-dimensional defender who's not good enough to play centre-back is useless to Arsenal. When do they ever play against teams who attack their defence the whole time? Their problems are with breaking down teams who park the bus, not with breaking up opposition attacks. The only time Cana might play is if Arsenal were playing teams like Man U or Barcelona - but then Arsenal couldn't afford to play with ten men just to accommodate him.
