Owen getting desperate for World Cup recall
03:30 PM 20 October, 2009
Michael Owen is getting desperate to be involved for England again.

The Manchester United striker has only featured in one of Fabio Capello’s squads, and with the World Cup Finals at the end of the season, he is running out of time.

However, as he prepares to face his former club Liverpool on Sunday, Owen has reminded Capello, and his doubters, of his goalscoring record at international level.

"Everyone can see everything with their own eyes. There are no secrets with me – I've played 89 games, I've scored 40 goals,” said the 29-year-old forward.

"Everyone knows if I play I'm likely to score every other game. Playing in a World Cup wouldn't bother me. In fact, I'd raise my game, as has happened before in big games.”

Owen will be hoping to get the nod next month when England take on Brazil – a nation he has previously scored against in a World Cup Finals (2002)
