Alberto Aquilani finally wore the red of Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The midfielder was signed from Roma in the summer in a £20million transfer, just hours after Xabi Alonso was sold to Real Madrid for £30million.

An ankle injury has prevented the Italian from making a first team appearance for the Merseyside club, but he did appear for the reserves for the first time on Wednesday.

Aquilani came off the bench to play fifteen minutes of the 2-0 win against Sunderland, although he will not be considered for first team duty against Manchester United on Sunday.
