Sam Allardyce admits he considered taking Aruna Dindane to Blackburn Rovers Football Club.

The Ivory Coast international striker scored a hat-trick for Portsmouth last week and will look to add to this tally when he travels to Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon.

However, it could so easily have been that he lined up for Rovers, as Allardyce admits he was interested in taking the player from Lens before Pompey swooped.

"A lot of us looked at Dindane, we all knew what a good player he was but we were not in a position to risk the situation with the big injury that kept him out for such a long time,” he said.

"Portsmouth were the ones who took the chance and Portsmouth are the ones who are benefiting from someone who looks like a very, very good striker and who we will have to keep quiet.”
