Is Paul Robinson still England’s best option?
06:00 PM 17 November, 2009
Can Paul Robinson reestablish himself as England’s number one for the World Cup Finals?

Fabio Capello claims he already knows who his first choice goalkeeper will be for the South African tournament next summer, with Portsmouth’s David James the likely candidate.

Manchester United’s Ben Foster and Robert Green of West Ham United are also in the frame, but what odds former first choice Robinson can win his place back?

“There’s no doubt that Robbo is back to his best,” Tim Flowers, the former Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper, told the Lancashire Telegraph of the current Ewood Park shot-stopper.

“I’ve seen him a number of times - he looks very confident and very assure of himself. If Robbo keeps it going, he’s going to be in the shake up, there’s no doubt about it.

“There’s a pool of about half a dozen goalkeepers challenging for that number one jersey and Robbo is a serious contender. There’s a big carrot at the end of the season and he’ll want to be a part of it.”
