Green advised to quit West Ham United
05:00 PM 18 November, 2009
Nigel Martyn has advised Robert Green to leave West Ham United Football Club.

The 29-year-old has ambitions of being England’s number one goalkeeper for the World Cup Finals, but Martyn believes he would have a better chance if he left the struggling Upton Park side.

“West Ham fans won’t be happy but if he can move to a top four or five club and hold a regular place in the team then he can make that England shirt his own,” he told the Daily Star.

At the moment, though, David James is considered Fabio Capello’s number one and he is playing at bottom club Portsmouth, whilst Ben Foster can’t get a game for Manchester United.

So there would appear no reason why Green couldn’t force his way into the starting line-up in time for the South African tournament, regardless of the advice from the former Everton goalkeeper.
