Stoke City Football Club hope to land Alex Smithies in the New Year.

The 19-year-old is rated as one the best young goalkeepers in England, and he has been capped at every level from the Under-16’s through to the Under-19’s.

Smithies is rated as a contender to become first choice for the Three Lions in the future, and it appears a matter of time before he leaves Huddersfield Town.

And that time could well be in the New Year, with reports suggesting Tony Pulis is plotting a £3million bid to take him to the Britannia Stadium.
