Portsmouth Football Club will again try and take Nicky Shorey in the New Year.

The England international cap has struggled to force his way into the Aston Villa side, since his £4million move from Reading in the summer of 2008.

Pompey almost landed the 28-year-old on a season-long loan deal during the summer window, but the move broke down ahead of the deadline date.

It is believed Paul Hart remains keen on Shorey, and he will again look to add the defender to his ranks when the window reopens in the New Year.
