Sunderland Football Club will not be moving for David Wheater in the New Year.

It has been strongly speculated that Steve Bruce wants to take the 22-year-old to the Stadium of Light to partner Michael Turner in the heart of his back four.

Wheater remains at Middlesbrough despite their relegation from the Premier League, and he is one of the star assets in Gordon Strachan’s first team line-up.

According to The Mirror, Bruce has told the Riverside Stadium boss that reports of a £5million bid for the defender are false, and no bid will be made in January.
