Roberto Carlos has backed Real Madrid’s interest in Juan Manuel Vargas.

The Spanish giants are believed to be considering a move for the Fiorentina fullback in the New Year, and former Bernabeu ace Carlos believes he would be a great addition.

"Vargas is a player of great quality, with considerable physical strength, he can play for Real Madrid,” said the ex-Brazilian international, now of Fenerbahce. "He might well be my successor.

“In Florence he is doing very well and I'm sure that he would be even better in Madrid. Vargas is an interesting player, if a club like Real follows you it really means something."
