Graeme Souness fears Liverpool Football Club may have to sell Fernando Torres.

An early elimination from the UEFA Champions League has sparked fresh fears over the Anfield club’s financial situation, particularly as the Reds are struggling in the Premier League.

Souness, a former Kop midfield idol, has revealed his fears that a finish outside of the top four this season could see Torres sold at the end of the campaign.

“It might be out of their hands if they are that far behind that it looks like they might not be able to qualify for the Champions League next year,” he said.

“That’s where the money is, that’s where the best players all want to be. The banks might turn round and put pressure on the owners and Torres would fetch what, £50million or £60million?”
