Manchester United Football Club’s Wayne Rooney hopes to have his most productive season this term in front of goal.

The England international hit a hat-trick against Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon in a 4-1 win, to take his tally to the season to date to ten.

"Taking penalties my tally should be a lot higher," he told the club's official website. "Thankfully, I've scored two of them today. It's a great feeling to score a hat-trick, an amazing feeling."

Rooney scored 23 goals in the 2006/07 season, which is his highest tally so far, and he looks more than capable of beating this during the current campaign.
