Newcastle United Football Club have confirmed their interest in Matthew Kilgallon.

The Magpies tried to take the Sheffield United defender during the summer but ultimately failed, yet manager Chris Hughton is ready to try again when the winter window opens.

“Matt Kilgallon is one of a few players we have had an interest in,” said the St James Park boss. "The bigger time for us is the window and we have got to make sure we do the right business then."

A 3-0 win against Swansea City on Saturday keeps United at the top of the Championship, and Hughton obviously feels Kilgallon can do a job in the Premier League next season.
