Liverpool look at cut-price £5million Upson deal
Liverpool Football Club are keen on Matthew Upson, but are prepared to wait until the summer to make a move to add him to their squad.
The 30-year-old England international has been linked with an exit from Upton Park in recent weeks, with Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur both said to be interested.
It is believed the cash-strapped Hammers are prepared to let the former Arsenal player leave the club, providing the would-be buyers stump up £10million for his signature.
The Mail on Sunday claim Rafael Benitez wants Upson at Anfield, but due to his own club’s financial situation, will sit tight and wait for the end of the season.
By this time the player will have just one year remaining on his current deal, and if he hasn’t been sold in the meantime, the Reds hope to take him for just £5million.
