Mark Hughes admits Kolo Toure hasn’t been at his best for Manchester City of late.

The £14million summer signing from Arsenal started the season in fine form, but he has struggled in recent weeks as the Blues have lost their way in the Premier League somewhat.

“Kolo is struggling with a little bit of form," said Hughes. "He has had injury problems and at times has played when he was not quite right. But because he is the captain he wants to play.

"You can't criticise him for that but you can compromise yourself if you play when you are not physically up to the right level. There has been an element of that for Kolo.”

Toure will hope to be on song on Wednesday night, when his former club visit the City of Manchester Stadium for a quarter-final tie in the Carling Cup.
