Jose Enrique has distanced himself from a January move to Sunderland Football Club.

Steve Bruce is eager to land a new left-back in the New Year, but Wigan Athletic are refusing to allow him to take Honduran international Maynor Figueroa.

Newcastle United’s Spanish star Enrique is thought to be next on his list, but the player won favour from the St James Park side by insisting : “I don’t care about Sunderland.”

Bruce is now expected to make a move for former West Ham United star Paul Konchesky, who is currently plying his trade with Premier League rivals Fulham.
