El-Hadji Diouf has slammed Sunderland target Mamadou Niang's retirement from international football.

The Marseille forward has been tipped as a potential signing for the Black Cats in January, opening up the possiblity of a partnership with Diouf.

However, Niang's decision to quit the Senegal side and then change his mind, has not impressed Diouf.

“Players who prefer not to wear the national shirt and go on holiday instead are not Senegalese," he has been quoted as saying.

"I prefer to lose with Senegal than hide away.”
