Wednesday’s Carling Cup success over Chelsea Football Club has lifted Ewood Park.

Blackburn Rovers will face Aston Villa in the semi-finals of the competition having edged past the Premier League leaders in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

The hero of the night was Paul Robinson, and the goalkeeper believes the victory has given the whole club a boost ahead of the visit of Liverpool this weekend.

"Bring on Liverpool," he said. "The cup run is a huge boost for our confidence. We always have confidence now at home, so we do not have any fears about Liverpool coming here.

"This cup run has got us in the right frame of mind, it has become a springboard for our league form. Hopefully by the end of December we will be in a position to be looking up the league.”
