Martinez plans Wigan Athletic spree
12:00 PM 05 December, 2009
Roberto Martinez plans to add to his Wigan Athletic Football Club in the New Year.

The Latics are having an extraordinarily inconsistent season, having beaten the likes of Chelsea and Aston Villa, yet they suffered a shocking 9-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

Martinez will be handed transfer funds to bolster his squad when the window reopens, and he intends to use this cash wisely to ensure a relegation scrap is avoided.

“We're a little light in numbers and we need to bring in two or three players in the transfer window to give us the right balance to go into the second half of the campaign with full confidence,” he said.

"But we must have players with the right character, who are at the right moment in their careers, who can bring something different to what we already have.

"I will never sign a player because it's the window and it's open, that's not the way I work. We've got a few options and we'll look to see if they are right ones.”
