Danny Murphy believes Sunderland Football Club can finish in the top-ten this season.

The Black Cats have enjoyed an impressive season so far, sparking expectations from their fans that they may be able to challenge for a place in Europe.

Murphy, who lines up for Fulham against Steve Bruce’s men on Sunday, wouldn’t be surprised to see the Wearside make a real challenge in what he believes is an open season so far.

“There has to be some so-called surprise packages in the top half because there aren't enough top-four teams to go around," said the midfield player. "There are still six places to fill in the top 10.

"I would have thought with the investment made and the quality of the players they brought, I don't think too many of us will be surprised to see them in the top half of the table.”
