Roberto Martinez has threatened big changes to his Wigan Athletic Football Club squad in January.

Speaking after a 1-0 lead was turned into a 3-2 defeat to Birmingham City on Saturday, Martinez has warned his under-achieving players that changes are on their way.

“There is inconsistency in our play and the reason is the lack of character that you need as a team," said Martinez. "It comes from the character of individuals and whether they're the right characters.

“It's something we're going to address - we'll make sure we do that. It's a painful lesson, but we need to make sure we learn from it

"When you see the two faces of our play, that is something I cannot accept. When you don't have that character, that know-how, it shows we need to increase the numbers and improve the squad."
