Carrick happy to jump to Manchester United defence
07:30 PM 07 December, 2009
Michael Carrick is happy to play at the back for Manchester United Football Club.

The midfielder was forced to play in defence for almost an hour at West Ham United following an injury to Gary Neville, and he impressed in the 4- 0 win.

The Reds injury problems means he is likely to play in the heart of the back four against Wolfsburg in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, and he insists he is happy to do so.

“I'm not exactly the next Rio Ferdinand but it was one of those days," said Carrick. "The first time I have ever played there in my life was at this level, but the lads made it easier by playing well.

“It's different surroundings and a different perspective on the game. You're not involved as much as when you're in midfield, but maybe it will help with my defending when I'm back in midfield."
