Wigan Athletic determined to keep Figueroa
02:00 PM 15 December, 2009
Roberto Martinez is confident of keeping Maynor Figueroa at Wigan Athletic Football Club.

Although the Latics manager expects much interest in the Honduran when the transfer window reopens, he is sure the fullback will not want to move mid-season in World Cup year.

"We know we won't be able to hold on to him too long. But he has the World Cup coming up next summer and I think he feels a change now would not be good for him,” said Martinez.

Figueroa, who scored an incredible goal from inside his own half against Stoke City on Saturday, is a target for Sunderland, whose manager Steve Bruce initially signed him for Wigan.
