O’Neill plays down Aston Villa title talk
04:30 PM 23 December, 2009
Martin O’Neill has played down Aston Villa Football Club’s title chances.

The Midlands club have beat Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool already this season, and are currently fourth in the Premier League table.

With it being such an unpredictable campaign this term some are hailing Villa as potential title winners, but O’Neill has played down such a possibility.

“I would have thought that that would be highly unlikely," he said. "I know that you always throw this question in around about Christmas time which means at least we are battling strongly in it.

"We're hanging in at the moment. We found the going tough last year, even when we got ourselves in a good position, the final third of the season wasn't too clever for us in terms of points gained.

"We've a lot to do. I think the players are really enjoying it and if they are enjoying it and the results are going okay then there's always a bit of hope that you can hang in."
