Keane: Hughes should never have gone to City
08:00 PM 23 December, 2009
Roy Keane feels Mark Hughes should never have joined Manchester City Football Club due to his strong connections with their Old Trafford neighbours.

‘Sparky’ was a hugely popular player amongst the United fans, and he enjoyed two spells with the club which saw him win two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the Cup Winners Cup.

So it was a surprise when, after learning his coaching trade at Wales and Blackburn Rovers, he agreed to succeed Sven Goran Eriksson at City in the summer of 2008.

Hughes was controversially sacked last weekend and Keane, his former United pal and now manager of Ipswich Town, has sympathy but feels he made the wrong choice to join the Eastlands club.

“Sparky? I'm disappointed for him of course I am," he told Sky Sports News. "I think when you're involved with a club like United, as Sparky was over his career you shouldn't go to a club like City.

"I think you should try and get employment somewhere else. I think Sparky is probably better off. He'll go on to be a top manager no doubt about that, but he's probably better off out of City."

Dunney monster was a legend at City, but last season he was very poor, and it was no suprise he was offloaded after the summer spening spree. I'm really glad for him that he's back to his best this season for the Villa, but who was to know last season was a blip - hindsight (as always) is a wonderful thing!!

Hughes made the fatal mistake of discarding Dunne. Since then, City had been leaking easy goals. He dug his own grave!

How can Roy Keane Think?.. He hasn't got a brain in his head. Pretty soon he'll be out of Football for good, he'll get the sack at Ipswich, and it's all down-hill after that, and right out of the game.

Is Keane really saying you should never go to you rivals? So if Utd had followed his advice they would have missed out on Ryan Giggs (City Youth: 1985-1987), Denis Law (City player: 1960-1961), and last but not least Sir Matt Busby (City player: 1928-1936) Some people shouldn't be allowed to speak without thinking first!
