Manchester City Football Club star Stephen Ireland faces two weeks on the sidelines.

The midfielder has again impressed for the Blues this season, and he was looking to cement a regular place in the starting line-up under new coach Roberto Mancini.

However, after picking up a hamstring injury during the 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday, he has been ruled out of action for a fortnight.

Ireland will now miss the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final against Manchester United, but he will hope to be back for the second leg at Old Trafford on 19 January.
