Tottenham Hotspur boss predicts uneventful January
07:00 PM 31 December, 2009
Whilst ruling out a bid for Matthew Upson, Harry Redknapp has revealed he doesn’t expect Tottenham Hotspur Football Club to do any business in January.

The Londoners are chasing a place in the top-four this season, and after a fine first half of the campaign, they end 2009 in pole position for the final UEFA Champions League place.

As has often been the case, the back four remains a worry for Redknapp, who has seen his ideal central pairing of Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King suffer with injury problems all term.

It has been suggested that the Spurs boss will move for West Ham United’s Upson in January, but the White Hart Lane chief has ruled out a bid for the England star.

Indeed, he doesn’t expect much business to be conducted by his board during the window, which may come as a disappointment to the fans who are eager to see momentum continue.

"There is no truth in that,” said Redknapp of the Upson link. "He is a terrific player, but it's not fair, we keep getting linked with players and we're really not looking to do anything in the window.

“I'd be very surprised if we do anything. He is a good player, but I don't need another central defender, I've already got good centre-halves at the club."
