Birmingham City Football Club hope to land Craig Gardner for £3.5million.

The Blues were keen to take the versatile Aston Villa star in the summer, but Alex McLeish failed to strike a deal with his counterpart Martin O’Neill.

Following the takeover from Carson Yeung earlier this season McLeish will be handed a £40million kitty in the winter, so it is little surprise to hear he will be renewing his interest in Gardner.

The 23-year-old has made just one substitute appearance in the Premier League this season, and city are likely to succeed with an offer of £3.5million for his signature.
