Liverpool to test Hammers Upson resolve
Liverpool Football Club are lining up a bid for Matthew Upson, claim reports.
Rafael Benitez is keen to bolster his back four at Anfield during the winter break, as he looks to make the most of what has so far been a hugely disappointing season.
The Reds have already lost seven times in the Premier League, and they were also eliminated from the UEFA Champions League at the group stage.
Reports in The Sun claim Benitez is plotting an £8million move for Upson, who is in the final eighteen months of his contract at West Ham United.
Gianfranco Zola is eager to keep his key players at Upton Park, but the Londoners financial situation may result in them listening to any substantial offers.
However, Liverpool are also hardly cash-rich at the moment, and any moves they make this month may depend on their ability to offload from their squad.
Andrea Dossena’s sale to Napoli should fetch around £4million, whilst Andriy Voronin and Ryan Babel are also up for grabs.
