Petrov out to prove Manchester City worth
05:08 PM 10 January, 2010
Martin Petrov is out to prove former Manchester City Football Club manager Mark Hughes was wrong to overlook him earlier this season.

The Bulgarian started just twice for Hughes before the Welsh coach was sacked, but he has made all three of new boss Roberto Mancini’s line-up’s so far.

Petrov has been in good form for the Italian, and he is aiming to continue in this vein to prove to Hughes that he was wrong to overlook him for so long.

“I think I deserve a place and I'm showing that to the ex-manager," he said. "If someone doesn't give you the chance, then that's frustrating - and he knows what I think.

"I know there will be times under the new manager when I have to be on the bench because we have so many good players at City. As a professional you have to expect difficult times.

"I've been away from Bulgaria for 12 years and this is the first time I've had a problem where I didn't play. I didn't play when Hughes was the manager and I wasn't happy but that's normal in football."
