Sunderland Football Club could yet sign Adam Johnson this month.

Steve Bruce is keen to take the Sunderland-born winger back to his homeland this month, as he approaches the end of his contract at Middlesbrough.

The 22-year-old has just six months remaining on his deal at the Riverside Stadium, but so far, the Championship side have resisted the temptation to cash in.

However, it is now being suggested that Gordon Strachan is happy to let Johnson go this month, to raise funds for some new faces in a bid to reignite Boro’s faltering promotion bid.
