Liverpool interest could benefit Milner
12:30 PM 13 January, 2010
Liverpool Football Club’s interest could make James Milner an even richer man.

Reports in the News of the World at the weekend claim Rafael Benitez has taken a liking to the England international, who is currently contracted to Aston Villa until 2012.

That in itself is hardly surprising, as the 24-year-old has largely been in sensational form this season, and he has played a huge part in Villa’s emergence as top-four challengers.

The tabloid claim the interest from the Reds will force Martin O’Neill’s club to offer Milner a new deal, although talk of a £75,000-per-week package is likely to be wide of the mark.

Mick12 NO-ONE KNOWS WHATS TRUE!!! You shouldn't start believing EVERY name that appears in the press. MOST of them are just completely made up, just to sell papers etc. The best thing to do.... Believe NOTHING unless LFC put the story out!!

face the facts lads.. im a villa fan.. martin oneil is going with the homegrown PLAYERS instead of big money names.. it proves to be better as you just seen with reading.. no big names there!! ye should of kept crouch,bellamy,pennant,warnock... the list goes on and liverpool are far from the team who won the champions league in '05.. its the truth and to be honest i think villa will be lucky to get 5th this season!!! REALITY!!

skutz ur an awful dope ur like a little girl finishing fourth will be a dream cum true bullshit with the rise of spurs and city 7th is nearly reality for ya think you need a reality check wow ye beat blackburn carling cup semi final but to be part of the top four ya have to do it week in week out and establish themselves as a top four tat home grown thing is balls how many so called home grown are on the first team and getting regular starts just about the same as united

Micheal. I agree with you AND disagree. Yes LFC should not have got rid of some players. And yes, local homegrown talent can be as good as big names. However.... What your really talking about is getting players to produce there best. Martin O'Neil is a fantastic coach and manager, and has always had the uncanny ability to not just get the best out of players, but to get them to play above themselves. Take a long look at your team and you will see 1 or 2 players with class, and the rest are all hard workers that run there socks off because Martin O'Neil has made them feel like great players. And thats why you'll be lucky to finish 5th! Just think were you could be if you had top stars as well as Martin O'Neil.

I cant disagree and i think every villa fan knows that but i also think martin oneil is a business man.. so saying that i think if he had all the money in the world he still wouldnt splash out £80 million on one player but id say he'd bring class at a bargain!! so 5th would be a dream come true but we need a goal scorer because i think villa have everything else to get the job done.. hopefully the carling cup will be ours after a HARD WORKED first leg!!

I'd like to see Villa win the cup actually. I think they deserve a trophy. And i agree with your point about O'Neil not spending that kind of cash. But thats also true of most clubs and managers. That transfer was just a freak deal. As for your goal scorer comment. I couldn't agree more. If you guys could just find a player to bag you 20 goals, you'd be in that top 4 for sure. And probably at our(LFC's) expense.
