Liverpool may join the race for Jones
11:30 AM 14 January, 2010
Liverpool Football Club may enter the race to sign Kenwyne Jones.

The Trinidad & Tobago international has been linked with Birmingham City and Stoke City this week, although Steve Bruce has dismissed the speculation.

The Sunderland manager claims neither club could afford Jones, who he believes is in the bracket of £40million when he is at his very best.

Such a figure doesn’t appear to have deterred Rafael Benitez from adding the 25-year-old to his wish list at Anfield, with the Spaniard hoping to include Ryan Babel in any deal.

The Dutch international is out of favour with the Reds, and reports suggest he could be offered to the Black Cats in a straight-swap with Jones.

Benitez sees the powerful forward as the perfect foil for Fernando Torres, who has at times cut a frustrated figure for last season’s Premier League runners-up.
