Tony Pulis remains hopeful of signing Portsmouth Football Club’s David James this month.
Stoke City were on the verge of landing the goalkeeper earlier this month, but they refused to pay his wages up until the end of June when the season finished on May 9.
It is now believed that a compromise deal for the loan is close to being agreed, and Pulis is hopeful of adding James to his Britannia Stadium squad.
"It has gone on a little bit longer than we thought it was going to take, but sometimes these things happen,” he said. "We're still interested in David.
“If we can do the deal we think it'll be a good deal for Stoke and we think it'll be a good deal for David. Hopefully. It's a chicken and egg situation. We're just hoping we can close the deal."
