Curtis Davies will not be allowed to leave Aston Villa Football Club this month.

The 24-year-old played during the FA Cup fourth round win against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon, his first game since undergoing shoulder surgery in September.

It has been rumoured that Celtic are looking to take Davies on loan for the rest of the season, but Martin O’Neill insists the defender will remain part of his squad.

“I wouldn't be in a position to be wanting to loan players out at this stage," he said. "While it would be great for some of the younger players to get maybe a month's football, we may well need Curtis.

“A loan would be absolutely out of the question, especially for a season loan.”
