How could Liverpool finance David Villa transfer?
Liverpool Football Club are being linked with a move for David Villa, but could they afford him?
The Spanish international has in the past revealed a desire to remain in La Liga when he leaves Valencia, but he appears to now be open to a move to the Premier League.
“In the summer I had my own reasons for staying in Spain,” said Villa. “Basically, my wife had to give birth first. But this time it will be different and I’ll analyze it again.
“I like the Premier League a lot. There are a lot of very important teams, who play good football. It’s the league I follow the most, along with La Liga – and I’ve got a lot of friends playing there.”
The Daily Star claim Fernando Torres has urged the Reds to make a swoop for his compatriot, but how could the cash-strapped Merseyside club finance such a deal?
Villa, 29, is rated in the £30million bracket by the Mestalla outfit, and for Rafael Benitez to make him a serious target he would perhaps have to offload Steven Gerrard to do so.
Liverpool fans: would you sacrifice your talismanic captain for one of the most lethal strikers in world football? Or should Benitez look elsewhere for a strike partner for Torres?
