Arsenal unlikely to match Babel fee
09:30 AM 26 January, 2010
Arsenal Football Club are unlikely to agree an £11million price for Ryan Babel.

The Dutch international has struggled for form since joining Liverpool from Ajax in the summer of 2007, and Rafael Benitez is prepared to let him leave this month.

A move to Birmingham City has been mooted over the past couple of weeks, but The People claim the Reds have offered the 23-year-old to the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger was a fan of Babel whilst he was still playing for Ajax, but it is hugely unlikely the French coach will agree to pay the Anfield club’s asking price of £11million.

Alex McLeish, meanwhile, remains keen on striking a deal for the player, and the Blues manager is said to be hopeful of reaching a compromise fee of £9million.

I didnt say he was a bad player now lol just not a fan of the player anymore seeing how he joined Liverpool (yes its narrow minded but we can all have our little opinions) and my worry is we buy him and he cant produce what we all know he can do on the field and so we get stuck with another 'maybe' forward. Arsenal have enough of those at the moment. We have bendtner, eduardo, vela and I suppose walcott as 'maybe' forwards at the moment. Did anyone watch the Stoke game or even the Aston Villa game? I do think eduardo can be a great player but maybe behind the front man. And lol last time I post on this board - didnt realise trolls reply (not you phil your last post was nice to read)

Sorry wez, but stefan is right. Just because a player doesn't work at one club, doesn't mean he wont at another. i'm one of the few LFC fans that actually likes Babel. I just don't understand why Rafa thinks he's a winger. He sooo clearly plays through the middle. personally, i'd like us to keep him and play him through the middle WITH Torres. I don't think many defenses would fancy that!! And i definitely don't want him to go to another English club. If he does, then he'll get played through the middle, and suddenly he'll look like the player everyone thought he was. Unfortunately stefan, i think dudders is closer to the mark on what you need. You guys have some fantastic attacking midfielders and second strikers. But they don't have anyone to play off, or occupy to center-backs with strength, while Febregas and co murder the rest of the defense.

We don't need Babel. We need a centre forward like Adebayor (BUT WITH THE RIGHT ATTITUDE)to hold the ball up for the midfield to use their pace running off him.

Dont need more pace up front, you obviously know nothing about Arsenal!! Have you seen Eduardo run in behind defenses recently, no RVP = no pace and every time i go to emirates i see nothing but opposition defenses squeeze the play with no fear of a ball in behind.....

He couldnt function at liverpool so why will he be different at arsenal? I was a huge fan of Babel up until he joined liverpool. We (arsenal) dont need more more pace up front, we need more aggression!

If you were a fan of Babel. Then you should know that he plays through the middle. And the only reason he not 'functioning' is because he's asked to play on the left. So why don't you like him now?? Is it just because you listen to the press, and don't pay attention to the fact he's out of position. Don't you have your own opinion of players?? If you used to like him. Then there's no reason you shouldn't like him now!!
