Ferguson beats Arsenal for Smalling
Sir Alex Ferguson has got one over on Arsene Wenger by signing Chris Smalling for his Manchester United Football Club squad.
Arsenal boss Wenger had been heavily linked with the England Under-21 international in recent weeks, with some sources claiming he was willing to pay as much as £8million for his signature.
The Gunners were expected to make their move sometime this week, but they have been beaten to the punch by Premier League title rivals United.
The Reds are refusing to say how much they have paid Fulham for Smalling, or how long his contract is, but what is known is the 20-year-old will see out the season at Craven Cottage.
