Good job "fit & proper persons" run Pompey, eh?
10:17 AM 29 January, 2010
Thank whatever it is you pray to that the Premier League unveiled a new "fit and proper persons" test in May last year.

Obviously, the promised transparency over club finances and ownership has really come to fruition at Portsmouth, where Sulaiman Al-Fahim's 60-day tenure at Fratton Park ended when he passed his 90 per cent stake to a Saudi recluse named Ali al-Faraj.

The "fit and proper persons" in charge at Portsmouth are now conducting transfer deals without the intervention of their manager Avram Grant and chief executive Peter Storrie, who says his position is untenable.

It would be interesting to hear what the Premier League definition of "unfit and improper persons" is, as surely some Pompey fans and employees would like some clarity as they face up to a £60m debt and possible oblivion.

Well, at least Pompey are finally honouring their financial commitments to Juicy, the company responsible for running their official website.

A Portsmouth spokesman said: "Our website was down because the club failed to keep to the payment plan agreed with our service provider.

"However, the bill was paid and the website is now running again."

Paying the players' wages might prove to be slightly more difficult, but with "fit and proper persons" in charge surely the fans can breathe easy. Can't they?
